To anyone who has ever appreciated just a single Black metal or Viking/folk/pagan metal release, make sure to raise a glass tonight for the man known as Quorthon, he of the Swedish legend Bathory, who died 5 years ago today/yesterday. He is one of very very few for when it is no exagguration to say that the history of extreme metal, and with it metal as a whole, would be considerably different without his influence and as such virtually every extreme metal band owes him an eternal debt of gratitude.
