New Online Music Service opens in Europe

According to BBC NEWS eMusic, the second biggest US online music store, has opened a European store and will therefore combat iTunes. This comes not long after Universal has been announcing its new music download service, SpiralFrog, to compete on the US online music market.

The important differences is that eMusic has deals with 8,500 independent labels, but none of the major labels that want DRM to be added to the files. This is important to note: eMusic does not use DRM (Digital Restrictions Management or Digital Rights Management depending on who you ask). Apple iTunes uses its own DRM called Fairplay.
