Scorpions, Amon Amarth & lots more confirmed for Copenhell '16

Copenhell — Denmark’s leading metal festival, which takes place at the Refshaleøen industrial area in Copenhagen, Denmark — has unveiled its biggest line-up release yet with the addition of no less than fourteen new artists.

In the headliner / subliner category the festival has fleshed out with the legendary German hard rockers Scorpions, who will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary as a band. Keeping with the prominent names, Swedish Viking metal warriors Amon Amarth have seized the opportunity to air songs from their forthcoming album ”Jomsviking”, and at the blacker end of the spectrum, former Immortal frontman Abbath Doom Occulta is eager to test the festival worthiness of his new group Abbath, which released its self-titled debut a couple of weeks ago. In addition, Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti’s solo act Tremonti has included a show at Refshaleøen on a tour promoting his new record ”Cauterize”, which landed in stores late last year.

A little further down the bill, the festival has secured signatures from Swedish death metal old schoolers Entombed A.D., who are preparing to release their next album ”Dead Dawn” on February 26th. In this category, you will also have spotted the inclusion of Germany’s brightest heritage rock prospect Kadavar, whose third full-length ”Berlin” earned a rave review from us last year, not to mention Swedish progressive / blackened death metallers Tribulation, whose newest creation ”The Children of the Night” emerged as one of the finest albums of 2015. Contributing their own shade of darkness, Swedish black metal horde Dark Funeral have also been booked in light of their new EP ”Nail Them to the Cross”, which they popped out roughly a year ago, just as the legendary stoner Lee Dorrian intends to bring his obscenely heavy doom collective With The Dead and its self-titled debut from last year to the festival. And connoisseurs of thrash need not look further than Denver, CO’s Havok, whose new Century Media debut should be out within the next few months.

The new additions also include a number of Danish acts as dark post-metal purveyors Redwood Hill make their return to the festival alongside classic rock / doom hopefuls Grusom (read our review of their excellent self-titled debut album from last year right here). It is unlikely that you will have been able to escape the attention surrounding hard rockers I’ll Be Damned right now, so naturally, they are a given at this summer’s edition of the festival. And finally, just as last year, the booze fuelled joke-metallers Red Warszawa will ensure that no one goes home sober once the party subsides.

The full line-up as it shapes up right now can be found here.

Tickets to the festival are available from Billetnet.dk, though the one-day option for Saturday, June 25th is now sold out. So if you fancy watching Black Sabbath for the last time ever on Danish soil, you’d better opt for the partout ticket.
