Danish festivals declare open battle versus Tinderbox

Posted by PP on 24/09/14

Roskilde Festival, Smukfest, Nibe Festival, and Jelling Musikfestival have decided on a collective aggressive response to the advent of Tinderbox Festival: drop the booking agencies associated with these festivals for a variety of reasons. The bureaus being dropped are the powerful global booking agency FKP Scorpio, the local Beatbox Booking, and Skandinavian Booking.

They are primarily afraid that because of these agencies' involvement behind Tinderbox Festival, there is knowledge sharing between the offers given by the other festivals and those deciding on the offers for Tinderbox bookings.

According to Anders Wahren of Roskilde Festival, they will from now on contact these artists directly instead, so not all of them will be excluded from being featured on their respective lineups.

Here at Rockfreaks.net we are skeptical of this approach because many artists on the rosters of the booking agencies are likely to have existing contracts in place preventing them doing just that.

Furthermore, this increases reliance on Live Nation particularly and to an extent also ICO Concerts for the big bookings, meaning they are unlikely to be able to negotiate a favourable deal with such a public announcement of exclusion by their competing agencies.

We've taken a look at the rosters and picked up a list of artists that are therefore unlikely to be seen at Roskilde Festival or the other three festivals. The list includes some heavyweight names within our coverage zone, so for an already questionable lineup from the rock fan's perspective, this decision is likely to thin out the offering further. Check it out below - and remember this list does not include the breadth of artists in other genres that will now also experience a thinning out in terms of offering:

NOTE: this list is based on the PUBLIC roster by the aforementioned agencies. Country-specific agreements may vary.
