Sony BMG bands' cds are now copy protected with a technique that installs malicious software onto your computer if you try to play the cd, without asking your permission. On top of this, the malicious software attempts to connect to the internet, and without a firewall it will get through.

It is impossible to remove the new software from your computer, which also poses a security threat, as it is possible for crackers to use it to attack your computer

Sony BMG has been under heavy criticism from organisations protecting consumer interests and has now issued a patch on their website to remove the software from your computer. This, however, doesn't change the fact that whenever you play a Sony BMG cd on your computer, it will re-install the malicious software.

Reportedly, If you attempt to remove the copy protection manually it will remove your CD drive from "My Computer".
