Jónsi wins Nordic Music Prize

Earlier today it was announced that Jónsi is the winner of the inaugural Nordic Music Prize.

The jury states:

”The music of the winner could only have been made here, in the North. It sounds and almost smells like Iceland. It’s brave and life affirming pop music that grabs you by the heart in flamboyant technicolour.”

Rob Young, one of the Jury members, said:

It’s healthy for the music business, to see the music life outside of USA and England. Nordic music is very exciting. And it has been for 10-15 years. It’s a good boost of confidence for the Nordic music.

It was important for the jury to pick something that couldn´t come from anywhere else than the Nordic countries. It’s a very attention grabbing record. It’s something about his music being thrown into interesting shapes. Sounds like a winning record. And sigurd ros opened up for Nordic music to the rest of the world.
