Ville Valo

We’ve come a long way since H.I.M. signed off. After Ville Valo took the stage last year at Copenhell, it is always lovely to see artists return later, which is what Ville Valo will be doing on the 30th of April, when he will be playing in Amager Bio. So, we jumped on Zoom to catch up with him about what we can expect for the concert next month, but we also talked about his album ”Neon Noir”, his first full-length album released last year.

We spoke about his world tour and the creative process behind the album. Ville mostly told us how the cover art came to be and honestly did not disappoint. With Black Sabbath and Type 0 Negative being some of his influences, how has it changed? Has it changed? And what does he listen to now? For him, it isn’t about the artists but the songs, which is an interesting perspective. What does he think of Lana Del Rey? Let’s hear about that.

Besides the casual vibe throughout the interview, we discuss how he got into H.P. Lovecraft. It was the 80s. The spooky feeling of reading different horror books and listening to ambient music sounds very fun. He tells a cute anecdote about his father introducing him to the books.

Ville Valo is an exciting person. The insight into his mind and how the album came about is fascinating, and having the chance to talk to him about different stuff was a great way to connect to his music a lot more. He knows some of us have never had the chance to see H.I.M., so there will be some of those songs there! But why does he think cooking in the dark is a bad idea? Will we see pyrotechnics at the concert?
