Welcome back Boys Like Girls. It has been a minute or maybe more. Either way, it's good to hear from you. It's been 11 years since Boys Like Girls released an album, and now they're back with "Sunday At Foxwoods". While it's hard not to compare anything they do to their debut album, we dive head first into "Sunday At Foxwoods" with high hopes and optimism.

The title track starts off the album as an instrumental piece heavily layered with different synths and electronic elements. While it's simple, it's rather catchy. The lead single, "Blood And Sugar," was an excellent appetizer for the album where Boys Like Girls led us into a new and unknown territory.

"The Outside", "Miracle", and "Brooklyn State Of Mind" would fill any elderly emo with some warmth as they bring it back to the debut with catchy hooks and elevating guitar riffs. One can't help but be transported back to when music was more straightforward.

While they might be strong instrumentally and lyrically, they lack personality in their songs, and that's a shame. Songs like "Lost In Wonderland" would have made such a powerful love ballad, but here it feels forced. On another occasion, "New Love" should have been the anthem to a broken heart, but instead falls flat on the concrete, as the rich 80s synths overshine whatever Martin Johnson and co were trying to deliver with the song.

It might not be the album of the year, but it certainly isn't the worst thing to come out of 2023. But it's hopefully the beginning of something new for the band. Boys Like Girls are working in the right direction with "Sunday At Foxwoods" and only fail on small parts. That does make it a decent comeback. Otherwise, they have a great future with electronic music. One would support that.
