Against Me!

Searching For A Former Clarity

Against Me! isn't your regular three chorded punk band. Their objective isn't to strike down riffs faster than light, or to cause as much noise as possible in as little time as possible.

"Searching For A Former Clarity" combines witty humour ("Unprotected Sex With Multiple Partners"), chilled out riffs too slow to call them punk rock ("Holy Shit"), and harsh singing resembling that of NOFX's. On the first listen, their songs may sound out of tune like the brilliant "Violence", but if you are patient enough to lay down a few more listens, the time spent will pay off.

It's strange to read everywhere that the fans of the band are denouncing this album as a one or a two star release. So, the band changed from their acousto-folk punk sound into a more distorted, slower punk rock one, and the album most certainly isn't as good as "Reinventing Axl Rose", but it's still a solid album. What you have to understand here is that this isn't meant to be heard when you wanna break down your walls, or when you just wanna jump all over the place. This is an album perfect for those zoned-out moments with a few beers in good company. It's not without a reason bands as big as Green Day and Jimmy Eat World have selected Against Me! as openers to their tours in the past (and still do so), and this album only reassures us that Against Me! belongs to the better half of Fat Mike's punk band collection.
