Sometimes I feel confused over the intent of some bands sending their records over for a review on our site. I mean I know we aren't as elitist as Lambgoat or Pitchfork but we still do trash quite a few albums in our reviews. So if you are an italian pop rock band singing in your native language with barely any recognition within your own country, what the hell makes you think Rockfreaks.net is going to praise your album to the skies? I have huge trouble in understanding whether the guys (and the girl) in hYdroniKa (what does that even mean?) honestly even believe that their music is worthy of a great review.

There's nothing wrong with trying, but in hYdroniKa's case their best just wasn't good enough. They are a female fronted pop rock band with an occasional pseudo-metallic solo heavy enough to just barely drag the band into the genre of rock; otherwise they would have had no place having a review on this site. The singer has a nice enough voice, and on a track like "Tutto Come Me" she actually uses it in a way that lifts the song out of the gutter it otherwise should belong to. But most of the time, even her rather competent singing ability isn't able to remove the feeling that these songs simply aren't good enough. The song writing skills are lacking, and the drum beats are boring, empty and hollow, although the latter effect might have been caused by the (lack of) production on the album.

I know this is a debut album and all, but these days you have to be pretty god damn good on your debut to be recognized, because if you are just average, or even worse mediocre, then nobody will care. That's why this album is not receiving a high grade. Oh, and for God's sake, please sing in English, Italian just isn't suited for a rock album.
