Insult To Injury

Dead Weight EP

For an example of everything you shouldn't do when considering to record a metalcore release, look no further than "Dead Weight" EP by the Pittsburg based Insult To Injury. It's a ridiculous one-chord chugfest from start to finish riddled with monotonous vocals, and slow, br00tal breakdowns that continue from what already feels like an endless breakdown to start with. Songwriting has simply been chugged out the window for this one, folks, where the focus has been to create a release as heavy as possible, but instead the end result is sheer stupidity.

For positives, the slight groove on a couple of riffs can be counted as such. After that, I'm honestly running short, because not only is the continuous bombardment with breakdowns fucking annoying, it's also supremely bland and forgettable. The songs are so anonymous that despite for several weeks of listening and trying to get it, Insult To Injury have failed to make any sort of impression on me whatsoever. Even as the hammer falls in this review, I'll be willing to guarantee that by this time tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to tell you how these guys sound like. That's how generic they are. 'Dead Weight' indeed.
