Where The Fuck Is My Horse

5 Shots O' Whiskey from Twente, Netherlands recently sent us their album after checking out our Myspace. And I'm glad they did, as their debut album "Where The Fuck Is My Horse" has been in steady rotation on my CD player for the past month or so. The 16 songs on their laid back debut album were all recorded in one six-hour stretch resulting in the kind of honest, no gimmicks punk 'n roll record the band evidently meant it to be as well.

Every track is easily singalongable with catchy choruses and groovy guitars that pay homage to bands as various as NOFX, Rancid, or The Dropkick Murphys. Not surprisingly, pint if not three might thus 'accidentally' make their way down your throat while listening to the record, as tracks like "Cameltoe" are perfect mood lifters and party starters. On one corner, you'll find a slow Aerosmith tribute "One Of A Million" (it must be, it sounds too similar to the 80s Aerosmith tracks), then you have a mid-paced song like "Open Road" - the most perfect song for driving I can think of - and on the other extreme you'll get the fast-paced, drunken punk rock tracks like "Minding My Own", whose effect is magnified by the lo-fi, garage punk style production. Think early The Distillers and you're not far off.

While "Where The Fuck Is My Horse" certainly lacks some focus and is probably the untrendiest album I've reviewed all year, it compensates with its fun factor. The songs are joyful to listen to, and guarantee to put you in a good mood, if not outright make you dance after a few listens, and I'll be darned if I can find anyone who could resist singing along the drunken gang-shout filled finishing track "5 Shots A Go Go". Perhaps "Where The Fuck Is My Horse" is the kind of album that won't end up on many record shelfs, but on those it will, it won't be collecting dust as it'll be in regular rotation, even if that only means when you're getting ready for your glasses of whiskey and pints of beer on St Patricks Day. A particularly unserious album, but all the more fun listen.
