Kaideka

False Idols And Pyrite Thrones

Kaideka is a Bristol, UK-based metal band who brand themselves as 'nu thrash', which roughly translates into a combination of thrash, nu-metal, and metalcore on their new album "False Idols And Pyrite Thrones". Now if you look at that description and roll your eyes thinking how could it possibly be any good, you're on the right track, because Kaideka essentially take the worst from all genres and put them together into an uninspiring and tiring release, one in which I have a hard time advancing past the halfway mark of the album before feeling like I must switch away to something better. A good reviewer has to suffer through even the worst of albums, however, so I'm here to warn you not to waste your time.

Unless, of course, you can't get enough of Mudvayne, System Of A Down, Slipknot, and generic thrash metal all at once, because that's basically how "False Idols And Pyrite Thrones" sounds like. "Lets Blame Dahmer", for instance, sounds like a thrashified version of Slipknot, and other tracks go for the nu-metal induced heavy metal that Mudvayne is known for. But it's not for the better. The screamed vocals are anonymous, and the occasional cleans are just horrific. The riffs are below average and boring, seldom awakening any sort of interest in the listener, and then on top of that, many songs are beyond six minutes in length. It's a struggle to get through the uninspiring structures that have no build ups, no slick riffs, nothing to keep the listener interested. They just go on and on without ever convincing the listener why they need to be six minutes long instead of just two or three.

The result is a boring album that's borderline annoying to listen to. It's a record that lacks highlight tracks, highlight moments, and highlight anything to drop the ax on the band. Sorry, but a sound this anonymous and outdated is just not going to cut it in 2012.
