Repuked

Pervertopia

The vomit gargle is basically a death metal equivalent of the pig squeal we know from deathcore: an immensely stupid and pointless gimmick whose utterly transparent purpose is to make the music more metal, which is ridiculous, because the only effect it has on the music is to make it so idiotic that the sane listener will bin the release as soon as overuse is detected. Enter Repuked and their new album "Pervertopia", which by the end of track one requires a shredder for the disc, and by track two removes the desire to live from its listener.

It does this by playing sub-standard death metal (y'know, serpentine riffs and heavily down tuned shit, pummeling drums and all) that alone stands in shame next to real death metal bands, but when combined with non-stop vomit gargling and other sounds that frankly come across as fucking disgusting, its musical value free falls to the lowest of ratings we deal out on Rockfreaks.net. It's one thing to suck at death metal, but an entirely another one to have a vocalist whose every line sounds like vomit is pouring into both your ears at a rate more alarming than at 2am outside a stereotypical British 'club'.

The song titles really say it all: "Mental Vomit", "I Wanna Puke On You", "Standing By The Roadside...Fucking Something Dead", "Morgue Of Whores", "Toxic Constipation"...seriously, who the fuck comes up with crap like that? Not only is it juvenile, but it also gives a good picture of the average IQ in a Repuked member. And before you come out roaring "BUT YOU JUST DON'T GET IT", let me just tell you that I really do. The lyrical themes are perverse on purpose and the music reflects that. But that doesn't give you any more street credit than having a fringe haircut in an emo band or doing pig squeals and monster breakdowns in deathcore. It just makes you look, or in this case sound, like a lower-class, uneducated person who probably shouldn't have dropped out of high school.
