Up for reviewing tonight is the eponymous fourth CD from Swedish hardcore (punk) act "Totalt Jävla Mörker" (loosely translated "Total Fuckin’ Darkness" for all you out there not proficient in Swedish).

Here’s basically what you need to know about them:

1: They’re REALLY frekkin’ angry about a whole lot of things. 2: They play brutal hardcore with amazing energy, and they do it in less than three minutes on every track on this record. 3: They sing (if you can call it that) in Swedish.

Okay, so now we’ve got the basics covered. Playing brutal hardcore I applaud, doing it with energy even more so. What I am a bit curious about though is why a band that seems to be very busy preaching morals/politics/whatever, choose to do so in Swedish. I’m from Denmark so at least I understand the names of the songs pretty well, but the Swedish lyrics combined with the really harsh, and rather monotonous vocal-work, create a noise which is difficult for me, and probably for you too, to decipher anything from.

This however is actually just a minor ‘flaw’ on this album, as what really spells its’ downfall is, as was hinted by the vocals, the almost complete lack of variety. No doubt that TJM like the way they play and they probably have their reasons, but for me it just gets rather tedious after a short while. Every song is full speed old fashioned hardcore with ANGRY unrelenting Swedish vocals. This may be exciting for a while, especially on a track like “Kall Värld” (Cold World – rather obviously), but not for long though. When listening to this, I get bored somewhere around track 5. If you’re madly into hardcore you’ll last longer. If not – well, you get the point. Not completely average, but close.
