Since music is largely a matter of taste, no magazine typically agrees, not necessarily even internally on what is the best album, the second best album, and so forth. So here at Rockfreaks.net we have always taken a different approach: we think it's far more important to try to capture all relevant albums from a given year of release that will have some significance a few years down the line...

Steve Hackett announces "Seconds Out" European tour

Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett has announced the “Seconds Out” European tour, on which he will play the live album with the same title by his former band in full alongside other classic and solo material.


The trek includes a concert at Amager Bio in Copenhagen on October 11th, tickets for which can be bought from Ticketmaster.dk now for 365 DKK (+ fees). For more information, see the official Facebook event.

Kill-Town Death Fest 2020 officially announced

Kill Town Death-Fest has officially announced its 10th Anniversary edition, set to take place at Pumpehuset in Copenhagen, Denmark between September 03rd and September 06th this year.


As per tradition, the festival will be announcing a new artist daily until the line-up is complete, starting with the Los Angeles, CA-based death metal unit Coffin Texts. That group released a new EP titled “Deities of the Prime Evil Chaos” in 2016, which you can stream in full below.


Tickets for the festival will be released for sale at 12:00 p.m. (CET) on February 20th — keep an eye on the official Facebook event for updates.


Benighted post lyric video for new song "Brutus"

Saint-Étienne, France-based brutal death metal mob Benighted have posted the below lyric video for their new song “Brutus”, which appears on their upcoming “Obscene Repressed” LP — due to be released via Season of Mist on April 10th and detailed in our previous news item. Avenged Sevenfold streaming previously unreleased track: "Set Me Free"

Avenged Sevenfold have made a previously unreleased track recorded during the sessions for their 2013 album “Hail to the King” available for streaming below. It is called “Set Me Free” and is included as a bonus track on an upcoming digital edition of the band’s 2008 live outing “Live In The LBC & Diamonds In The Rough”, which will be released on February 07th.


Azusa sets April release date for new album "Loop of Yesterdays"

Multinational experimental metal supergroup Azusa will release a new album titled “Loop of Yesterdays” through Indie Recordings and Solid State Records on April 10th. Although more details about the effort are yet to be provided, you can already listen to the first single “Memories of an Old Emotion” below.


For those not familiar with Azusa, the outfit unites Extol guitarist Christer Espevoll and drummer David Husvik with former The Dillinger Escape Plan bassist Liam Wilson and Sea + Air vocalist Eleni Zafiriadou.


Lychgate to release "Also sprach Futura" EP in March

London, United Kingdom’s avant-garde black / doom metal conjurers Lychgate have set March 13th as the official release date for their new EP “Also sprach Futura” via Debemur Morti Productions. It consists of the following tracks:

Monolithe debuts new single: "Disrupted Firmament"

Monolithe have unleashed the seventh new track from their upcoming album “Okta Khora”, which will be released on physical formats by Acteurs de l’Ombre Productions on January 31st, having been prematurely leaked and since made digitally available in 2019. Green Day premieres new video single: "Oh Yeah!"

Bay Area rock / punk icons Green Day have premiered a new video single dubbed “Oh Yeah!” online below. It is taken from their upcoming album “Father of All…”, which is set to be released on February 07th and is available for pre-order in all formats here.

Clients announce début album: "A Callous Heart Rejects"

Copenhagen, Denmark-based extreme metal newcomers Clients will release their début album “A Callous Heart Rejects” on March 13th. While further details are still pending, you can take a look at the artwork on Facebook, and in case you missed it last year, listen to one of the tracks from it in the shape of “Moth King” below.


The band will join forces with CABAL and Unseen Faith for a concert at Nygadehuset in Aabenraa on April 18th. Tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster.dk for 140 DKK (+ fees), while more details are available in the official Facebook event.


Artillery reveals headlining concert at Richter in February

Taastrup, Denmark-born thrash metal crew Artillery have been booked for a headlining concert at Richter in Gladsaxe on February 29th, with Demolizer set to provide support.


Tickets cost 160 DKK a piece and can be bought via the venue’s website, while more information is available in the official Facebook event.

Ithaca confirmed as support act for Big Thief's upcoming European tour

London, United Kingdom-based experimental hardcore punk unit Ithaca has somewhat surprisingly been confirmed as the support act for Big Thief’s upcoming European tour, including the concerts at Store VEGA in Copenhagen on March 11th and VoxHall in Århus on March 15th.


Tickets for the first concert can be bought from Billetlugen.dk for 235 DKK (+ fees), with more information available in the official Facebook event.
