The County Medical Examiners

Olidous Operettas

The County Medical Examiners is one of the strangest trios you will ever come across. Not only do they emulate early 1980s goregrind records of legendary Carcass, but nobody actually knows the true identity of any of these three guys. Curious yet? There's a LOT more coming. The three guys are all real life pathologists working in the morgues of three hospitals, and have each created pseudonyms (Dr Morton Fairbanks on guitar, Dr Jack Putnam on Drums, and Dr Guy Radcliffe on bass and vocals) to avoid the wrath of hospital administration and fan attention. The band has never played live and has shown no sign of intending to do so in the future. Their bassist--a 63 year old senior--actually hates gore-grind, but has elected to be their bassist simply because the band was missing another pathologist, and because of his professed love for avant-garde. The new record "Olidous Operettas" has taken over a year and a half to record because all three members live in different states, allowing them to only record sporadically.

The band has stated "Our CD smells like rotten meat" about the new record as well as described it as "not something you would want to put on before church". Both statements are quite accurate, as this might be the ugliest music you'll hear this year aside from the new Berzerker. The lyrics revolve around work in the hospital morgues, as titles like "The Virchow Postmortem Procedure" or "Maturating Decompositional Gas" already suggest. There is seemingly no structure in any of the music, just ultra-deep growl-duels between the guitarist and the bassist, and the occasional lightning speed pace changes and drum-mutilation passages. Does this still constitute as music? I'm not sure anymore. But considering the controversy surrounding the band, everyone who suffers from curiosity will end up looking this band up.
