What happens when you mix Millencolin-style medium tempo skate punk together with plenty of horns, trumpets and the sorts? Well, something akin to Overweight, a Belgian ska band with notable skate punk overtones. The extensive use of horns and trumpets on their latest album "The World For Sale" will throw your thoughts into ska but as soon as these disappear it's back to skate punk territory courtesy of the guitarist. Particularly a song like "Tonight Is Mine" sounds very "Pennybridge Pioneers"-era Millencolin if you ask me.

This isn't a problem though as there aren't enough ska-punk bands if you ask me, and it's been a long time since Millencolin put out anything halfway decent. Moreover, Overweight don't make the mistake of inserting an overdose of cheerfulness into their sound, instead sticking with a slightly more melancholic sound that's then contrasted by the brighter horn instruments. Such a small detail makes all the difference in the world, and although it might sound like a decade old sound as a result, don't fix what isn't broken, right? Since the band also excels at writing addictive choruses complete with a few woo-ooh's, you have no excuse to leave your dancing shoes at home when they come around to your town.

There isn't too much more to be said about "The World For Sale" because it thrives with its simplicity. It's all about catchy skate punk hooks spiced with joyous ska rhythms, horns and trumpets, and good choruses that should attract your attention on first listen. Most of all, it's a fun, light-weight record that doesn't require much from the listener other than a good mood and a desire to have a good time.
