Losing Must

Reclaiming Yesterday

Only the fewest in Copenhagen have knowledge to local skate punkers Losing Must, who released their first demo "Rising EP" back in September to little notice despite containing a few promising cuts. Some of these were unfinished demos from their previous band Jerkoff, some brand new efforts, but they were all plagued by awful production that hindered the otherwise awesome melodies to fully flourish.

That's something the band were looking to change on their second demo "Reclaiming Yesterday", and with Eddie C of Voodoo Glow Skulls fame behind the production knobs, it's no surprise that you're now treated to a much better sound quality. Technique-wise, Losing Must have improved as well, best exemplified on "Believe" that opens with a killer lead riff to kick start the EP. The style largely follows the same idea as on the previous record with early Millencolin and Pennywise coming to mind, though with a stronger focus on the latter. "For What It's Worth" is the best cut on the record though thanks to a sing-alongable chorus and a little humour in the form of the epic "DING DONG, MOTHERFUCKER" sample from Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.

The political leaning in the lyrics of "Idealist" is a little too serious for a band at this stage of their career, but a much larger problem is the perceived lack of tightness in the instruments throughout the disc. They're simply too loose to stand comparison to most other bands in the genre, but that'll come with time. Finally, I feel that even though the production has improved by tenfold, the songs don't grab me as well as the previous records. It's still not too bad, but for their next record the band has to find a way to combine the decent production of this demo with the melodies of the first one to climb onto the higher marks.
