What is Rockfreaks.net?

We are an online magazine covering all things "rock", focusing on bands worldwide and musical events mainly located in Europe. We are among the most visited music-related sites in Denmark and currently we are the only one focusing exclusively on a wide spectrum of rock's sub-genres. Our coverage includes reviews of new releases, live shows, festivals as well as features on all things we deem relevant to the curious rock fan. Our concept is to be a "by the fans, for the fans" medium, and thus we make no discrimination between famous mainstream phenomena and obscure local bands trying to make a breakthrough. We take in as much as we can hear and see of the world of rock, in order to gain the widest frame of reference, so that we can convey the most interesting and accurate information to our readers.

What this technically means is that we review everything. Every album, EP, demo or DVD that is sent to us will end up on the front page with a review, no matter if it has entered Billboard as number one or if it is just something you and your friend recorded onto a laptop in your garage one lazy afternoon. Naturally however, we review as honestly and objectively as we are able, meaning that we might praise your record to the skies, or condemn it as a complete waste of time. We assume that since you have sent stuff for us to review, you must have faith in our ability to do it fairly.

In our events coverage, we do have a primary focus on things taking place in Denmark, given that it is our country of origin and where most of our staff is based, however, this does not exclude us from also featuring tour dates and news for other European countries.

Get in touch?

Unless you are already in regular contact with us, we suggest that you email us on staff@rockfreaks.net, which forwards all incoming emails to all members of our staff. This way you are certain that someone sees your mail as soon as possible, and we will then make sure that it is handled by the appropriate person. In case you are interested in adding us to your mailing list for promotional purposes or the likes, this is also the address you need to use. Please note however that even if you send us your press releases this does not automatically mean they will be posted as news items. We pick and mix and choose the most interesting ones, otherwise our news feed would be overwhelmingly clogged.

If you have specific inquiries or are already in some way in contact with one of us, you can refer to the individual addresses listed next to the writers at the end of this page. But PLEASE DO NOT WRITE TO US ASKING WHEN YOUR ALBUM WILL BE REVIEWED IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SUBMITTED IT FOR REVIEW AND CONFIRMED THAT IT HAS ARRIVED! We receive so many albums for review consideration on a daily basis that we cannot (and wouldn't even if we could) review on other basis than first come, first serve.

Can you review our album/EP/demo?

Yes. We can and we will review everything that is sent to us, except for CDs with track-split because this prevents us from ripping them onto mp3 players. We all work this site in our spare time, and since we have to attend our lives on the side, spending time listening to your album several times sitting in front of an old fashioned stereo is not a delay we are interested in suffering. As for voice-overs/beeps etc, we strongly disapprove of that as well as anything else that decreases the listening experience of something you want for us to evaluate, however, we will still review albums with voice-overs if you have no other means of providing us your material, but as for beeped promos, we will always down prioritize them over non-beeped promos.

We strongly disapprove of reviewing from streams as well. If you send us a stream for review, we WILL rip the stream into MP3 files on our computer because you cannot expect us to sit by our computer when we are listening to your product.

If you wish to have your release reviewed, please send us a promotional copy and a press kit (short biography, track listing, release date, label [if you have one] and at the very least a contact email address) to the following address:

Can I write for you?

Yes. If you enjoy going to shows, if you think you have enough of an opinion and of knowledge about rock'n'roll, and if you have the drive to share this with others, then we, given our aim of covering rock in the widest manner possible, almost certainly will have a spot open for you. What you get out of it will most likely be access to loads of promotional music, free admittance to numerous live shows, the possibility of interviewing some of your favourite musicians as well as invaluable journalistic experience. You'll be a "Freelance Rock'n'Roll journalist" - Think about that for a second. All that is required is that you have an acceptable level of written and spoken English, as well as an interest to discover a boatload of music that you never knew existed.

If that sounds interesting to you, send us a sample review of any album or gig you have heard or seen recently - or possibly a sample of your work if you've previously written for another magazine. You need to send it to staff@rockfreaks.net along with your contact information, and we will get back to you.
